Get Feet Ready For the Heat!

Deal with corns/bunions:
Unfortunately with summer, when we talk about corn, it isn’t always on the cob. Sometimes we have corns on our feet, and with flip flops and sandals this means they are there for everyone to see. Corns, which are really just calluses on our toes, are often caused by improperly fitting footwear. Luckily, since self treatment of corns shouldn’t be done without consulting a podiatrist, sandals offer feet enough space so they can get a chance to breathe which can help alleviate discomfort. Similarly, bunions (areas on our toes where more bone than normal has formed) benefit from flip-flops due to the extra space as well. So although you may be a little hesitant to show them off, it’s actually the best thing for them!
Moisturize as much as possible:
Since we tend to walk barefoot a lot during the summer, it’s important to keep feet looking and feeling healthy. How do you do this? Keep them moisturized! Start by soaking feet in warm water, and exfoliate dead and/or dry skin (Try: AVON Foot Works Watermelon Exfoliating Foot Scrub). For only five dollars, your feet get the treatment they need with a delicious scent perfect for summer. After drying, follow with a moisturizer to return nourishment to your feet. Lotioning feet as much as possible with regular lotions, or buying specific feet cream such as Heel Rescue Superior Moisturizing Cream (available at Wal-Mart) can help get the job done.
Stay Groomed:
When we think of waxing and summer our minds often go straight to our legs, bikini lines, or armpits. Well for some of us, we can add toes to the list. Simply by applying store bought wax (a good one is Nad’s facial strips) our toes can become hair free! Now that the hair is removed, we can move onto what most of us think about when talking about “pretty feet” our toe nails! In terms of length, toe nails should be cut and maintained to be even with the tips of our toes. Once they are trimmed it’s time to add a little color. French manicures are a good way to go seeing as they’re good for the office and look good for a night on the town. For summer bright colors are also a good choice, like corals, oranges, and pinks, try Nicole by OPI Nail Lacquer (available at Target) since they complement our tans (and can help distract away from elements of our feet we’re not that proud of!)
With summer right around the corner, following these suggestions can help put your mind at ease. Whether it’s addressing some of these issues, or just applying some touch-ups, these simple fixes can make the care-free mentality we all love about summer, be applied to our feet too!
