In the Summer, our make up needs tend to alter, especially when it comes to the type of foundation we require. The weather climate changes, we’re beach bound so we tan more, and we spend more time being active outdoors. With that being said, a heavy, full coverage foundation may not always be the best bet. It’s also important to remember that as your complexion darkens from sun exposure, you will need to purchase a darker foundation that matches your new skin tone, as well as one that contains SPF protection.

Now before you start the selection process, its important to determine what your skin type is. Skin types are categorized as follows: Normal to Dry, Oily/Combination or Sensitive Skin. After you determine this, you will be able to choose the perfect foundation for those sizzling summer days that can still keep you looking flawless without weighing your skin down.

Here are some foundation tips below that can help you on your next trip to the Beauty Counter...

If you have Normal to Dry skin, you want to use a foundation that has moisturizers in it. A lightweight, liquid foundation can be your best bet for the summer. Liquid foundations tend to provide the best coverage, yet they can be a little heavy during the summer months. A tinted moisturizer is also a nice alternative.

Pros:
Flawless Coverage

Goes on Smooth and absorbs quickly
Quick and easy to apply

Cons:
Can clog pores
Can begin to run if you sweat a lot
Too much can make your skin appear too “manequin” like
Can streak and look heavy if not applied properly

Try MAC Studio Moisture Tint with SPF 15.

If you have Oily to Combination skin, you want to use an oil-free or water based foundation. A powder foundation will work best for you in the summer. Powder foundations provide a sheer coverage and when layered can give your face a smooth, finished look.

Pros:
Lightweight
You won’t have the “Made up” look
