BK Fashion Week{end} - April 2010:
3 Emerging Designers

By:  Mia Able & Tye Renwrick
Check out our coverage of the NYC Shecky's Girls Night Out event.
On Sunday, April 11th HMM checked out Brooklyn Fashion Weekend that was to be hosted by Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen of Bravo's The Real Housewives of New York. We arrived at the Brooklyn Navy Yard's Steiner Studios, posed for a few flicks on the red carpet and set sail to view our first fashion show in the BK. As the show began around 7pm, one thing was certain - fashion was not the only item on the agenda. The Brooklyn Style Foundation had many musicians and artists on hand to entertain the attendees. Robbie Nova, Cocoa Sarai, and WordSpit put on a show with original songs and attention-grabbing performances that attempted to get the crowd's blood flowing.

There were three designers that really caught the eye of the HMMag staff that evening, who we expect will be doing big things in the near future:

BGU
The excitement really began when the models from Big Girls United hit the runway. BGU brought the heat for curvy women. The energetic models strutted in animal patterns, blue and black jersey dresses, and jumpsuits. From fit to the selection of materials, it's clear that someone finally understands how to design for plus sized women. Not only did the collection impress, so did hair and make-up. All models rocked sky high ponytails that were teased to the max. Co-Creator Jeannie Ferguson even hit the catwalk striking instant applause from the audience as she showed off their designs.

Pantora by Andrea Pitter
A breath of fresh air was released onto the runway when twenty-year-old Andrea Pitter presented her Pantora line. It was refreshing, cohesive, daring, sleek and ultra feminine. As each piece from the Fall/Winter 2010 collection hit the runway it was cemented that Pantora is a brand to look out for. The pieces ranged from functional day wear pieces to a wedding gown.

Students of Williams H. Maxwell High School & Futa Fashion
At just 16 years old, these students put together a wide ranging collection for men, women and young girls. These young students have a lot of talent and will surely have success waiting for them in the future.  During the show of Williams H. Maxwell High School, there was another young show stopper, Diva Davanna! We ran into Lil' Diva backstage and just adore her!
