The Three C's of Hair
By: Tye Renwrick
Cut
Short hair is sassy and sexy. It's much easier to maintain and gives a look of purpose and authority. If your going for a sophisticated look aim to keep your hair cut at or above your shoulders. Long hair tends to look juvenile.
Don't choose your style based upon others, what works for one person doesn't always work for the other.
When choosing a new cut it's also important to keep your face shape in mind. It's best to pick a cut that will frame your face and bring out your best or favorite feature.
If you face is round, aim for a style that downplays the width. Try for a medium length style without layers. If your face is long, aim for a short to medium length cut that adds width.
A bold hair cut is a great way to refresh your look, but if you already have a great cut, look to add a little dye to your hair to enhance your look.
Color
If you are a beginner and coloring your hair at home, try a temporary color that washes out, this way you'll have the freedom and liberty to change or go back to your original color if it doesn't turn out how you expect.
You'll save time and money by picking a hue close to your natural hair color. This way as your roots grow in it will not appear obvious that you dye, also you will not have to be dye your hair as often.
Sometimes a full head of dye is too time consuming or appears overbearing. The next best option is streaks, commonly called highlights. Choose to highlight you hair depending upon your base color, typically a few shades lighter than your hairs natural shade looks best.
It's best to have a professional put highlights in your hair, but if you opt to do-it-yourself ask a friend to lend a hand and serve as an extra pair of eyes to ensure the highlights are completely even.
The process of maintaining healthy hair that has been processed is detailed, but not too time consuming if done accurately.
Care
If you have colored or processed hair it's best to deep condition and nourish as often as possible. Just as well you will want to keep the ends of your hair trimmed -colored hair often causes spilt ends and hair breakage.
Avoid using rubber bands and brushing your hair too often, both are extreme players in hair breakage.
When using a flat iron always make sure it is clean. This will extend the life of your iron and prevent your hair from breaking and getting dirty.
The best way to avoid and protect your hair from color and heat damage is through hydrating and conditioning the hair. Serums and oils work well because they are lightweight, your hair won't feel weighed down and you'll be able to style it however you like.
Before washing your hair it's important to always comb through it thoroughly. Completely wet your hair before shampooing and always shampoo twice. The first wash cleanses the hair and the second allows the shampoo to treat your hair. Always comb the conditioner through to ensure it takes well and rinse with warm water.
If you follow these steps you'll be sure to have the best and most suited color and cut. Try to keep up with our hair-care tips and you'll surely have a spruced up summer hairstyle.
